Pantheon is the secular burial place of many notable people who helped to form the history and identity of France, such as Voltaire, Victor Hugo, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and Marie Curie. Built from 1764 to 1790, this monument is a masterpiece by the famous architect Soufflot, who built it as a church in dedication to St. Genevieve. This early example of neoclassical architecture has a façade modeled on the Pantheon in Rome, topped by a dome that owes some of its character to Bramante's "Tempietto." From the outside, marvel at the massive portico of Corinthian columns as well as the triple dome. Inside, you can't help but to notice the coffered inner dome covered with an ornately painted fresco by Antoine Gros, called "The Apotheosis of Saint Genevieve." • What a find in Paris! I loved this building not only because as students we got free entrance for the monument AND the observation deck with one of the best views of Paris, but because of the incredible interior of this architectural masterpiece. A building that has served too many roles, under too many leaders... It's just steeped in history.
  • Pantheon is a neoclassical architecture located a short distance from the Eiffel Tower. The beautiful building here, the audio guide was helpful in remembering the history of the French Revolution. It is a mausoleum where notable French citizens are buried. It houses the tombs of famous historical personalities in france. It is really amazing to see the roofs and sculptures here. It is very interesting to visit the tombs in the crypt here. The catacombs are especially stunning. There is a huge mirror here whose installation reflecting the dome on the floor is good. It is heavenly museum for science fans.
