Sitting on a plateau in front of the Quadrio business center, Franz Kafka Monument is a kinetic sculpture by the contemporary artist David Cerny. Combining modern technologies with traditional crafts, the artist created the head of the great writer from 42 mobile tiers, which slowly rotate independently of one another playing with the form and light. The 11 m (36 ft) statue was cleverly named Metalmorphosis, alluding to Kafka's famous story Metamorphosis. To find out how to plan a trip to Prague, use our trip itinerary maker.

  • Pretty cool looking status in Praha. The color, material and shapes it takes. The movement occurs the first 15 minutes of every hour

  • Nice work of rotation. It always change the direction of movement. And you kind of can see 2 faces at a time. Or may be more. It last for 15 min so be there when next hour starts and if you want to make video be ready with it. It can start before that too. Its a huge rotation metal head with so many plates. Very impressive work.
  • You should remember that the head only rotates every full hour for 15 minutes. It's quite impressive, one of my favourite spots during my visit in Prague! However, it would be nice if there were some benches 🙂
