Create an itinerary including Plaza Botero
In the heart of the city's old town, Plaza Botero pays tribute to the famed works of Colombian sculptor Fernando Botero. Nestled between the palace of culture and the local museum, the verdant square serves as a hub of city activity. Wander among the numerous bronze statues by Botero and you'll get a solid understanding of the artist's famed style: his trademark sculptures feature chubby figures, both human and animal, with exaggerated, balloon-like proportions. Try striking a pose of your own in front of one of the 23 popular works on display here, or grab an ice cream and park bench to watch the crowds go by. Put Plaza Botero and other Medellin attractions into our Medellin trip planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • This is a short stop to take a few pictures of the many great sculptures they have. It is crowded and lots of vendors around.

  • Dangerous neighborhood. Lots of pickpockets and prostitutes and indigents. Very poor police protection and presence. Suggest going in groups of 2 or more and don't flash valuables. Including cameras.....  more

  • Botero Plaza. In the heart of El Centro, the bronze sculptures are a site to see. Big bronze Botero monuments. It’s really nice to walk around and take some pictures. Very safe and easy to get to by metro.
  • The sculptures are great but the area is a little rough and traffic in and out is pretty bad. Recommend taking the metro. The converted church/art gallery is free to enter and has some cool exhibits.
