At Sigmund Freud Museum, get a glimpse into Freud's life and the development of psychoanalysis. Visit the rooms in which the father of psychoanalysis produced the majority of his writings. Freud lived and worked here for 47 years until June 4, 1938, when he went to England. See original furnishings, his personal items, the waiting room, and parts of his extensive antique collection. Founded in 1971, the museum features about 2,000 documents. The archive of images includes photographs, paintings, drawings, and sculptures, plus signed copies and first editions of his works. Watch the film material on the Freud family in the 1930s, which features a commentary by Anna Freud. Attached to the museum, you'll find Europe's largest psychoanalytic research library. We did the guided tour in the Freud museum and weren’t quite convinced. The rooms don’t really relate to one another and show quite random stuff. No clear mention of what he achieved and researched...

The museum had very organized rooms with detailed displays. However lots of the original pieces someone would like to see (like the original treatment bed) are missing and can only be seen in photos. The museum store is expensive and the cafe also. Sure a good place but not on the “must see” of Vienna.

The museum was OK. The atmosphere was kind of sterile as the renovation created rooms with bare white walls. Some attempt was made to place black and white photos in some of the rooms or to paint or paper a small section of the wall with its original colors. But to get a real sense of what the apartment was like, you can get a better feel by looking at the book by Edmund Engelman. The exhibits were a good starting point for anyone wanting to get an overview of his work. However I thought the entrance fee was high given the size of the museum and the exhibits on display.
