Old Spitalfields Market, London

#12 of 411 in Shopping in London
Flea Market · Hidden Gem · Shopping
There has been a market on the site of Old Spitalfields Market since 1638, when King Charles I gave a license for flesh, fowl, and roots to be sold there. Today, Old Spitalfields is one of London’s top markets, offering antiques, clothes, organic food, artwork, and vinyl records. It’s particularly recognized as a place for young designers to showcase their work, and is considered very fashionable. As it’s a covered market, you don’t need to worry about rain. Once you’ve worked up an appetite from shopping, visit one of the stalls selling food, or one of the restaurants and cafes also in the covered area. • Very spacious market. They have increased their food area. It is so lovely and lively. Great place to taste world food. Bit quiet during weekdays but gets really busy at weekends.
