While it may seem like a regular fishing port at first glance, Cape Coast bears traces of the Portuguese, British, Danish, Swedish, and the Dutch colonists who variously ruled here.
Step out of the city life by going to Kakum National Park and International Stingless Bee Centre. Go for a jaunt from Cape Coast to Assin Manso to see Ancestral Slave River Park about 1h 15 min away. There's still lots to do: explore the historical opulence of Cape Coast Castle, take in the waterfront activity at Elmina lagoon, and steep yourself in history at Elmina Castle.

To find other places to visit, ratings, traveler tips, and other tourist information, read our Cape Coast trip planner.
