Gjógv is a village located on the northeast tip of the island of Eysturoy, in the Faroe Islands and 63 km north by road from the capital of Tórshavn. The village was named after a 200-metre long sea-filled gorge that runs north to the sea from the village.HistoryThe village was first mentioned in 1584, but it seems to have existed long before then. You'll explore the less-touristy side of things at Kunoy Park and Haraldssund Tunnel. Get out of town with these interesting Gjogv side-trips: Garoahusio (in Soldarfjordur), Hvannasund (Hvannasund Church & LivArt) and Christianskirkjan (in Klaksvik). There's lots more to do: steep yourself in history at Risin and Kellingin, take in the spiritual surroundings of Funningur Church, don't miss a visit to Saksun Church, and examine the collection at Vestmanna Saga Museum.

If you are flying in from Sweden, the closest major aiport is Vagar Airport. June in Gjogv sees daily highs of 13°C and lows of 8°C at night. On the 7th (Sun), you'll travel back home.
