The cultural, economic, and political center of the country, Vienna has developed from its early Celtic and Roman roots into a medieval and Baroque city, with an old town that was designated a World Heritage Site in 2001.
Schonbrunn Palace and Belvedere Palace will appeal to history buffs. The Hofburg and Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien will appeal to museum buffs. Step out of Vienna to go to Passau and see Donau Cycle Path, which is approximately 6 hours away. Next up on the itinerary: take in the architecture and atmosphere at St. Stephen's Cathedral, wander the streets of Historic Center of Vienna, browse the eclectic array of goods at Vienna Naschmarkt, and stop by Graben and Kohlmarkt.

You might consider the city of Budapest, divided by the Danube River into two distinctive cities--Buda and Pest--to be essentially one large World Heritage Site.
Escape the urban bustle at Danube River and Priest's Island (Pap-sziget). Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at Herend Porcelain - Hadik Shop and Book Cafe - Lotz Terem. The adventure continues: steep yourself in history at Matthias Church, don't miss a visit to Heroes' Square, appreciate the history behind Shoes on the Danube Bank, and see the interesting displays at House of Terror Museum.
