A mere 32 km (20 mi) from Lisbon, the coastal town of Cascais has a long history of entertaining royals.Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Miradouro do Suberco and Santuario do Senhor Jesus da Pedra. Venture out of the city with trips to Monastery of Alcobaca (in Alcobaca), Marinhas de Sal (in Rio Maior) and Nazare (O Sitio & Praia da Nazare). There's still lots to do: see the interesting displays at National Coach Museum, admire the landmark architecture of Palacio de Monserrate, make a trip to Obidos Village, and stop by Primvs.
