Lucca, famous for its intact Renaissance-era city walls, remained an independent city-state until the end of the 18th century.
Get out of town with these interesting Lucca side-trips: Pisa (Camposanto, Leaning Tower of Pisa, &more), Vernazza (Vernazza & Santa Margherita di Antiochia Church) and Monterosso al Mare (Footpath Monterosso - Vernazza, Convento dei Cappuccini e Chiesa di San Francesco, &more).
