Considered a cultural, artistic, and architectural jewel of Italy, Florence is the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance.
Visiting Riserva Naturale Acquerino Cantagallo and Royal Golf Club La Bagnaia will get you outdoors. Get out of town with these interesting Florence side-trips: Castello di Verrazzano (in Greve in Chianti), Accademia del Buon Gusto (in Panzano in Chianti) and Castello del Trebbio (in Santa Brigida). There's still lots to do: explore the world behind art at Gallerie Degli Uffizi, snap pictures at Ponte Vecchio, examine the collection at Pitti Palace, and enjoy breathtaking views from Campanile di Giotto.

Montepulciano

Pearl of the 16th Century

Perched on a limestone ridge in the heart of Tuscany, Montepulciano is known worldwide for its production of red wine, the Vino Noble.
Escape the urban bustle at Nature & Wildlife Tours and Bosco Rocconi. Get out of town with these interesting Montepulciano side-trips: Montalcino (Podere Il Cocco, Poggio Rubino, &more), Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona (in Castelnuovo dell'Abate) and Cascate del Mulino (in Saturnia). There's still lots to do: look for all kinds of wild species at Crete Senesi, learn about winemaking at Cantina in Piazza, make a trip to Piazza del Campo, and pause for some serene contemplation at Duomo di Siena.

Portoferraio, Elba Island

Portoferraio is a town and comune in the province of Livorno, on the edge of the eponymous harbour of the island of Elba. Visit Spiaggia delle Tombe and Cala di Mola for some beach relaxation. Step out of the city life by going to Scuba & Snorkeling and Capo Stella. Venture out of the city with trips to Casetta Drouot (in Marciana Marina) and Capoliveri (Capoliveri Bike Park, Centro Subacqueo Il Corsaro, &more). There's still lots to do: hike along Percorso dell'Enfola, look for gifts at Elba Nostrale, get outside with Aloha Center, and stroll through Walking trail to Spiaggia della Biodola.

Do a combination of car and ferry from Montepulciano to Portoferraio in 4 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus, train, and ferry. Traveling from Montepulciano in March, expect nights in Portoferraio to be about the same, around 8°C, while days are slightly colder, around 15°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 27th (Wed) early enough to travel to Livorno.

Considered one of Tuscany's newer cities, the busy port city of Livorno boasts modern charm uncharacteristic of the region.
Get in touch with nature at Costiera di Calafuria and Parco Naturalistico Le Biancane. Venture out of the city with trips to SATOR Winery (in Pomaia), Riserva naturale regionale Lago di Santa Luce (in Santa Luce) and Le Colline di Sopra (in Montescudaio). There's lots more to do: stroll through Bagni Etruria, don't miss a visit to Terrazza Mascagni, and stop by Papaveri.
