Built on seven hills, Lisbon has experienced a renaissance in recent years, making it the cultural star of Portugal.
Step out of Lisbon with an excursion to Quinta da Regaleira in Sintra--about 36 minutes away. There's lots more to do: observe the fascinating underwater world at Lisbon Oceanarium, make a trip to Elevador de Santa Justa, take in the spiritual surroundings of Mosteiro dos Jeronimos, and wander the streets of Alfama.
