One of Poland's oldest cities, Krakow sits at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains, its historical town center nestled on the left bank of the Vistula River.
Krakow is known for historic sites, museums, and nightlife. Home to Poland's indigenous Goral people, Zakopane sits at the foothill of the Tatra Mountains, an area serving as one of the country's most fashionable year-round vacation getaways.
Venture out of the city with trips to Lake Morskie Oko (in Tatra National Park) and Pieniński Park Narodowy (in Szczawnica). There's still lots to do: take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Gubalowka, hike along Za Bramka Gorge, examine the collection at Muzeum Oscypka Zakopane, and don't miss a visit to Wiktorówki.

Start off your visit on the 26th (Wed): appreciate the history behind Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, then walk around Planty Park, and then take an in-depth tour of Panstwowe Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau.
