Ponta Delgada

— 9 nights
As the busy capital of São Miguel, Ponta Delgada represents the most visited place on the island. Known for its historical buildings, the city offers 17th- and 18th-century convents and churches, as well as cobbled pedestrian streets and hidden squares.
Get some historical perspective at Nossa Senhora da Paz and Igreja Matriz de Sao Sebastiao. Get some cultural insight at Igreja do Santo Cristo and Igreja de Sao Jose. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Ponta Delgada: Furnas (Parque Terra Nostra, Poca Da Dona Beija, &more) and Vila Franca do Campo (Islet of Vila Franca do Campo & Praia Da Amora). Spend the 13th (Mon) among aquatic life with a scuba or snorkeling tour. The adventure continues: take in the dramatic natural features at Caldeira das Sete Cidades, contemplate the waterfront views at Lagoa do Fogo, tour the pleasant surroundings at Caldeira Velha Environmental Interpretation Centre, and enjoy the sand and surf at Praia de Santa Barbara.

Green Island
Known as The Green Island, Sao Miguel is the largest of the nine islands of Azores and is considered a natural paradise. These islands were discovered in the 15th century and, according to myth, are reputed to be part of the lost empire of Atlantis. Sao Miguel's most prominent feature is a set of twin lakes, one of which is blue and the other green. Visitors also enjoy the island's park, golf courses, beaches, mountains, marina, and ocean views. Stop for a look at the city's monuments and architecture, and experience the cobbled streets lined with a variety of restaurants, shops, bars, and cafes.
