Museum Speelklok displays a collection of self-playing musical instruments, such as music boxes, musical clocks, pianolas, and turret clocks. Here, you'll also see several of the quintessentially Dutch large street organs, or barrel organs. Opened in 1958 following a highly successful exhibit called "From Musical Box to Street Organ," the museum has developed a collection of automatic mechanical instruments recognized worldwide. Join the guided tour to learn more about the history of each instrument. On the tour, you'll also have the chance to interact with the items on display. • Really enjoyed this museum. The guided tour every hour is absolutely worth joining as you get to see a bunch of the automated instruments in action, and it is free once you're in the museum. Tour was in Dutch and English and we had a really enthusiastic and interesting guide, but would even be enjoyable without the explanations as the instruments were great to just listen to.
  • A fascinating your through the history of mechanical musical instruments, from tiny music boxes built-in to BN pocket watches to massive fairground organs. The musical guided tour is excellent. This is the main reason I came to Utrecht, and I was not disappointed.
