Cathedral of Saint Bavo, Haarlem

4.5
View a source of pride for the citizens of Haarlem at Cathedral of Saint Bavo, an elaborate Gothic structure built during the 13th century. As you approach, try to spot the tower that rises above everything else. Renaissance and Baroque art decorates the main cathedral, including the pulpit sculpture, the tombstone of Bishop Triest, and the mesmerizing painting of Saint Bavo Entering the Monastery. If you have a chance to explore the crypt under the choir, more paintings and church artifacts await. Before you leave, take a few moments to visit the former sacristy, which has been converted into a museum displaying historical artifacts from Haarlem's Catholic past. • We did the skywalk. It was exhausting climbing the spiral staircase but worth it for the views. There was a service taking place inside the beautiful cathedral and an organist was playing the organ. They also have an interesting small museum.
  • Grand church. The church just went through a renovation, so it is in the best state. The interior is beautifully redone. There is a new walkway that connects the two towers. On a good day, you can see the view from Amsterdam or beyond. Don't forget the small museum at the end of the building. It tells a story of the church and its recent renovation. A must see for tourists who come to the Netherlands.
