Willet-Holthuysen Museum
Admire the opulence of the Dutch Golden Age, and stroll through one of Amsterdam's most luxurious historical residences at Willet-Holthuysen Museum. The house was originally built in the 17th century for the mayor of Amsterdam. After changing hands several times and undergoing a few modifications, Mrs. Willet-Holthuysen gave the house to the city, which converted it into a museum. A rich collection of artwork (much of it belonging to the previous owners of the house), is displayed throughout the rooms, which have been carefully preserved. After admiring the paintings, artifacts, furniture, and decor in the salons, ballroom, and private quarters, stop by the kitchen for a cup of tea or coffee. If the weather is nice, you can also visit the garden. The audio tour is free. Please check website for museum admission price and hours. Put Willet-Holthuysen Museum at the forefront of your travel plans using our Amsterdam trip planner.

Not many people know about this place, even my Dutch collègues. It definitely worth visiting! But if you don’t have much time, I’d say come to this one instead of museum van Loon because I think this one is slightly bigger? They are very similar.

Wonderful little surprise! If you'd like to see how wealthy people from Amsterdam lived and still live, a visit to this wonderful canal house is a must. I particularly enjoyed the kitchen and the staircase with marble statues.
