Head up Doi Inthanon, a mountain of great natural and cultural importance in Thailand. At 2,565 m (8,415 ft) above sea level, this is the highest point in the country, situated in a popular national park that bears its name. With splendid views from the top and an abundance of wildlife all around, the summit acts as a tribute to the Thai royal family, with chedis (monuments) dedicated to the king and queen keeping watch over the landscape. Conveniences abound across the park, particularly on the mountaintop, making it both a family-friendly site and an adventurer's playground. Explore the park and its famous peak on foot or by vehicle, alone or as part of a tour. We went on an organised trip with Inthanon Heaven Trail which visited the elephant sanctuary first, we then went up to the highest point in Thailand but this was just a short walk from the car park... more »
Lovely summit at around 2600m above sea level. Highest point is in a moisty forest with beautiful moss. The golden afternoon light was shining through the greens beautifully. Great spot to take some impressive pictures, printed one of them on a canvas and hung it at home.
We did the hike in about 2 hours. In the sunny dry weather it wasn’t challenging at all; the only delay was to take in the scenery. It’s predominantly walking up/down steps and is a circular route. As the other reviews say, you need to get a local guide to accompany you, but it is well worth it - they point out flowers and plants that we wouldn’t have otherwise seen. We did it around midday but I think it would probably be more interesting at either end of the day - the pictures our guide took from earlier that morning we spectacular.
