La Lonja de la Seda
A Gothic building that once housed the famous Valencian silk traders, La Lonja de la Seda is a UNESCO World Heritage Site notable for its architecture. which was used to display the region's growing prosperity rather than to honor religion, as with most other Gothic buildings. The structure is in almost perfect condition, with richly detailed ceilings, perfectly polished floors, and twisted columns. Before the attraction was constructed, between 1482 and 1548, an earlier trading post was used. Local trade grew so much that the present building was built to provide space for all the merchants. Cannot believe how this fine building was constructed over 500 years ago. The main hall with its twisted columns looking like barley sugar canes spreading out to the vaulted ceiling. Perfection. On... more »

It's a beautiful gothic building with a garden but nothing special. There is no entrance fee luckily so you can just make a quick visit. more »

Take an audio guide (€3 for one, €5 for two) and enjoy this monumental building with lots of hidden secrets. The thing I liked most were the detailed sculptures everywhere, the kind that you have to look at for a while before you see what's actually depicted. The main hall with the pillars is great too. Some reviews mention that it's fine to take just one audioguide for two persons, but I would recommend taking one each, as there's a lot of information.

Not only worth of a visit because the building, there is also a good historic review, plenty of relevant samples of clothing. Do not miss the old, semiautomatic looms with Babbage style punched programs. The giftshop is not the usual run-off-the-mill one from these kind of places. Even if small, some interesting fans and silk email gifts can be found.
