The equestrian statue of Francisco Pizarro is one of a set of three bronze sculptures works made by the hands of the American sculptor “Charles Cary Rumsey”, one is located into the city of Trujillo (Spain and birthplace of Pizarro) this on the Plaza Mayor in front of the San Martin Church, another in the city of Lima, who is the capital of Peru (where he died and buried), and the last statue you can find into the city of Buffalo (USA) located in front of the “Albright-Knox Art Gallery”. All three of them are representing the conquistador Francisco Pizarro mounted on a horse and dressed for the fight with Armor and sword. Pizarro is famous for having led the Conquest of Peru in the 16th century and founded the city of Lima on January 18, 1535 establishing what would be the Viceroyalty of Peru.
. Plonked down at one side of the main square, the Plaza Mayor, is this large statue of the town's favourite son. Or any rate, its most famous son: Francisco Pizarro, the Conquistador of Peru. It's a bronze statue, fittingly mounted on a plinth of local granite, and is the work of the US sculptor Charles Cary Rumsey. His wife came to Trujillo and personally chose the site for the statue, and the Spanish dictator Primo de Rivera and the US Ambassador both attended the unveiling ceremony in 1929. Purists have pointed out that the statue is historically inaccurate, as Pizarro is wearing the wrong sort of helmet, and his horse is too much a thoroughbred; the horses taken to South America were smaller and sturdier than this. It makes a good photo opportunity, however, and as this is Pizarro's birthplace, a fitting memorial. .
