Torre Giralda, Seville

4.7
Once an ancient mosque’s minaret, Torre Giralda is a converted belfry soaring over the city’s famous Gothic cathedral. A symbol of the city easily recognizable from countless postcards and tourist brochures, the tower can be climbed for a sweeping view of the surrounding area. This brick tower on the northeastern side of the World Heritage–listed cathedral is 104 m (341 ft) tall, originally built around 1190. The tallest sections of the tower were added much later, when Christians took over most of the city’s Islamic buildings and converted them to suit their religious needs. The tower can only be accessed through the cathedral. To ensure entry, check online for available tour options before you go. • Wonderful piece of history! I came here when visiting Sevilla and because of traffic, we were extremely late, we had booked at 11am but got there for 1pm and they still allowed us in with our tickets which was really cool. There are 35 floors of like a ramp up to the top of the tower, but it's well worth the climb as the views are spectacular! Also there is so much art and religious symbols inside of the cathedral! You could truly spend all day in there! Would recommend the visit, whether you are religious or not it's still a great view on history.
  • The place was just humongous. It's hard to describe it in words. On the inside the is lots of space and things to see. When you are walking on the street you're nearly all ways next to this cathedral. The altar is beautiful with the back wall filled to the brim with highly detailed ornaments and figures. If you're ever in the old area if Seville the I definitely recommend seeing this place.
