Torre Giralda, Seville

4.7
Once an ancient mosque’s minaret, Torre Giralda is a converted belfry soaring over the city’s famous Gothic cathedral. A symbol of the city easily recognizable from countless postcards and tourist brochures, the tower can be climbed for a sweeping view of the surrounding area. This brick tower on the northeastern side of the World Heritage–listed cathedral is 104 m (341 ft) tall, originally built around 1190. The tallest sections of the tower were added much later, when Christians took over most of the city’s Islamic buildings and converted them to suit their religious needs. The tower can only be accessed through the cathedral. To ensure entry, check online for available tour options before you go. • It is the highest church tower in the city, and what a! He is just as high as the Tower in my hometown. the St. Rombouts Cathedral Mechelen in Belgium. But the architecture of this tower is much light-hearted perhaps because it turns out to be a former Minaret Tower. There are still Moorish characteristics reflected but the tower was later converted into a bell tower to give him a more kristelijk. You can to the top of the tower but a panorama of Seville we had just had on top of the Metropol Parasoles.

  • Paris has its Tower, and London, Berlin its door, good, so many icons of so many cities... and Seville, neither more nor less than its Giralda tower, impressive, centuries-old history, observer and observed all witness and by all who visit Seville, and from its height see the entire city. Wonderful.

  • Beautiful cathedral that acts as a focal point for the city. If you are ever lost, just look up and you'll see it peeking over the rooftops. You can climb the tower but I recommend booking tickets if you plan on visiting. The architecture is stunning and an interesting mix of catholic and Muslim cultures. Plenty of rooftop bars close by to get an even better view of the spires and have a gin tonic. Legend has it that Columbus has certain parts of his anatomy buried there!!!
  • Extraordinary monument in the old town of Seville. Very well known, You Can visit it inside and walk up, it is not high as high as it from outside appears. Drink a good coffee and enjoy the way....remembering that many years ago, people were walking up with their donkeys charged with materials.
