One of the largest Gothic churches in the world, Catedral de Sevilla is the final resting place of Christopher Columbus and a World Heritage Site. The awe-inspiring cathedral is 126 m (413 ft) long and 83 m (272 ft) wide, built on the site of a former mosque. The mosque’s minaret, now serving as a converted bell tower, still stands right next to the cathedral. Climb up this emblematic tower for sweeping views of Seville, or tour the interior to see the longest nave of any cathedral in the country. Inside the main body of the cathedral, the most noticeable features are the choir lofts and the carved scenes from the life of Christ. A single craftsman, Pierre Dancart, spent his entire life completing the work on the richly detailed altarpiece, considered one of the finest in the world. Started construction in the 15th cc century, this is one of the largest churches in the world. When built it was said (Let us build a church so beautiful and so magnificent that those who see it finished will think we are mad) and that is definitely true. The scale and grandeur of this place is immense. You even get to see the remains of the European founder of the new world; Christopher Columbus. A must visit when in Seville just to marvel at the architecture of the place and the history associated with it. Enjoy!

Sevilla is my favorite Spanish city, and its cathedral is my favorite cathedral worldwide. Both inside and outside of the building is filled with eye catching monuments and the architecture is breathtaking. You can feel the real Spanish vibe in the neighborhood. Inside, you find the tomb of Christopher Columbus and the treasury which shouldn't be missed. Perhaps good to know is that the cathedral is built on the cite where a mosque used to be. The magnificent Patio de Los Naranjos and the Giralda are the remainders of that mosque.
