Basilica de San Juan de Dios, Granada

4.6
Basilica de San Juan de Dios is the spiritual center of the St John of God order, and an ideal example of the Granada Baroque architectural style. Walk around the church to see the towers and facade before entering to view the ornately decorated interior. As you explore, you will see elaborately decorated domes and chapels, with walls covered in artwork, inlaid mirrors, and a wealth of gilded furnishings. Make your way to the sacristy and see a museum-like collection of 62 frames and mirrors, or climb up to the dressing room to a gallery of art pieces. Wander into the post-chapel and see precious objects that have survived the numerous lootings that the church has undergone, then view the gold adornments of the Camarín reliquary. If you prefer a more religious experience, Sunday masses are still held. • It is impossible to go through such beauty, it is a masterpiece of unparalleled architecture and art. It's hard to convey and describe what I've seen. The photos do not reflect feelings and emotions. I'm happy we can see so beautiful. I have no more words... Thank you Spain.

  • We came almost by surprise with this church, which we later learned was Basilica. We were impressed by the ornamental richness of it, of the part of the choir that looks almost an amphitheatre of an operatic theater with an extraordinary state of conservation in general. All the altars with an ornamental richness worthy of one of the best churches I have seen in Spain

  • One of the most intricate and gorgeous basilicas I've ever seen. The detail and care of the structure is phenomenal. Access to all areas of the sanctuary and interesting audio tour. A MUST in Granada!
  • Absolutely amazing Basilica! Definitely worth visiting. Don't forget to put a coin donation in the light box to illuminate the whole golden wall of the altar.
