Wander through the narrow medieval streets in Patronat Call de Girona, one of the largest and best-preserved Jewish quarters in the world. Situated next to the Cathedral, it's made up of a network of winding passageways converging on Calle de la Força, the quarter's main street and Girona's trade center back in the times of the Romans. Winding your way through the labyrinthine streets and up and down narrow staircases, you'll be transported to a time long before the dawn of the automobile. Stop into some of the tiny shops that open off the passages, where you can find Spanish pottery and other artisan gift items. Visit the Museum of Jewish History to see, among other artifacts, a collection of medieval tombstones from Montjuïc, the Jewish cemetery located on the north side of the old city.
