Torre dos Clerigos, Porto

#1 of 59 in Historic Sites in Porto
Observation Deck · Church
Climb to the top of Torre dos Clerigos, an iconic symbol of the city. This tower behind the Clérigos Church was built in the mid-18th century. Its design contains aspects of Roman Baroque architecture, though it is modeled after Tuscan-style bell towers. While this structure can be seen from various places in the city--making it one of the most recognized sites of Porto and a compass for lost travelers--you can't fully experience the tower until you ascend the 240 steps to its peak. Once you reach the top of this six-floor trek, you will be rewarded with incredible views of the ancient city. • Go later in the day to avoid large crowds.
  • It’s a central landmark in the city - 5€ to go up to the tower and it gets very busy during the day, so I recommend either go during morning (as early as possible) or around lunch. It’s very beautiful and the tower has a good view over the city. Definitely one thing to do in Porto and also close to the HP library.
