Porto Cathedral (Se Catedral), Porto

4.2
Visit Porto Cathedral (Se Catedral), one of the country's prime Romanesque monuments, featuring two square towers supported by a counterfort, a baroque porch, and a gothic chapel. Apart from being the largest church, this cathedral is also among the oldest monuments in the city. The site served as a wedding spot of King John I, and Prince Henry the Navigator was baptized at the site. Dating back to the 12th century, the structure you see today was finalized in 1737. See its Gothic cloisters featuring blue and white Baroque tiles, check out an art collection within, and look for the silver-adorned altarpiece held in the chapel. • As most Cathedrals are made in different styles of the different times of their construction, but it is a rather interesting visit. Its cloister is very beautiful and has as decoration on the walls the typical blue tiles of Portugal. From its exterior you can see a very beautiful view of Porto and the Douro

  • Built in the 12th century, the cathedral underwent important changes in the 17th and 18th centuries. Notice its 13th century outlet. The Chapel of Holy Communion has a very attractive altar.

  • Another beautiful church. Vastly overdone with gold leaf and alters that needed to be set in a much larger church. The cast bronze relief located just inside the main entrance, from an unknown artist, is worth viewing however. Stunning.
  • Beautiful church, amazing views after walking to the top. Lots of people doing the same thing but hey, that's what you get when you are a tourist! Highly recommended to do but a few steps to climb and tight squeezes
