You'll find Livraria Lello fascinating even if you're not into books. A bookstore with loads of character not found in malls, this building from the early 20th century features Neo-Gothic details that add a punch of magic to the usual shopping experience. "Harry Potter" author JK Rowling, who lived in Porto in the 1990s, allegedly used one of the shop's twisting stairways for inspiration. Stop by and you might be inspired to read--or write--something too. A truly beautiful bookstore So pretty they charge an entry fee. I visited in the off-season (weekday in December) so it wasn't too crowded, but during peak times there's a line to get in. It's worth it and the fee is discounted from any purchases. Offers their own imprint of many classic books in multiple languages which are great souvenirs.
Absolutely beautiful book shop. Filled with too many tourists (well obviously) but just wandering around looking for serendipitous encounter with a book is such a fulfilling and one of a kind experience. You can purchase an entrance ticket at a kiosk like shop two doors next to the book shop. Highly recommended, if you're a bookworm ;)
