As the busy capital of São Miguel, Ponta Delgada represents the most visited place on the island. Known for its historical buildings, the city offers 17th- and 18th-century convents and churches, as well as cobbled pedestrian streets and hidden squares.
Kick off your visit on the 16th (Sat): take in the dramatic natural features at Caldeira das Sete Cidades.

Barcelona, the country’s second-largest city, is a cosmopolitan urban center known for its throbbing youthful energy and stellar architecture.
El Barri Gòtic and Barcelona Cathedral will appeal to history buffs. Relax by the water at La Barceloneta and Platja de la Nova Icaria. There's still lots to do: take in the architecture and atmosphere at La Sagrada Familia, kick back and relax at Nova Mar Bella Beach, don't miss a visit to Park Güell, and examine the collection at El Cafè de la Pedrera.

Built on seven hills, Lisbon has experienced a renaissance in recent years, making it the cultural star of Portugal.
Escape the urban bustle at Portugal Bike and Praia da ursa. Get some historical perspective at Castelo de S. Jorge and Belém Tower. There's still lots to do: take in the spiritual surroundings of Jeronimos Monastery, see the interesting displays at National Tile Museum, tour the water at your own pace with Pypas Cruises, and wander the streets of Alfama.

Fly from Barcelona to Lisbon in 5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or do a combination of train and bus. The time zone changes from Central European Time (CET) to Western European Time (WET), which is usually a -1 hour difference. September in Lisbon sees daily highs of 31°C and lows of 20°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 25th (Mon) early enough to go by car to Fatima.

Fatima, Portugal

Fátima is a civil parish in the municipality of Ourém, in the Portuguese Santarém District. Kick off your visit on the 25th (Mon): tour the pleasant surroundings at Praia da Nazare, then see the interesting displays at Casa-Estudio Carlos Relvas, and then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Convento da Ordem de Cristo. Keep things going the next day: steep yourself in history at Batalha Monastery, then delve into the distant past at Museu Monografico de Conimbriga, and then take in the spiritual surroundings of Basilica of Nossa Senhora do Rosario de Fatima.
