A not-to-miss place for those visiting Ciudad del Este and the Itaipú dam. It opened in 1975, but still has a fresh feel, making use of multimedia displays. It's divided into two exhibition halls. The first concentrates on the Guaraní world and explores what we can learn from the original inhabitants, whose descendants, the Ava Guaraní of Acaray-mí, still preserve their culture. There are baskets, feather ornaments, stone tools and cooking pots. The second hall is devoted to science. The life of 19th century naturalist Moisés Bertoni, one of whose achievements was to register the sweet herb ka'a he'e, which is 300 times sweeter than sugar and has no calories.
