Verdant nature trails with looming trees, lovely dark-sanded beaches, and excellent swimming conditions await at Laguna Charco Verde. Access the lush greenery here via a short walking trail, and then enjoy swimming in the calm waters. Note that while the water appears murky, this is not due to lack of sanitation but rather the sediments from the bottom of the lake mixing with the water. Local legend tells of an ancient, lanky witch called Chico Largo, who occasionally appears in the lake to go fishing.     Charco Verde was one of the first places we visited on Ometepe. We took a local bus both ways from Moyogalpa, which was a lovely experience on it’s own if you like mixing with locals. There is a...  more »

    If you travel on a budget you better stay away from Charco Verde. The food and the beer is super expensive. In addition the beer was luke warm and the food was nothing special. There are a 100 other better places to spend your money. They have even closed the open and free passage to the local track where you could walk to other beaches and into the jungle and Charco Verde (which is a small green lagun almost impossible to see trough the bushes and absolutely not for swimming).Now you have to pay to enter. I've been living on Ometepe for many years and this is one of the worst tourist traps I've seen so far.
