Climb to the top of , which offers bird's-eye views of the fjord and the Old Town from the height of 1,200 m (3937 ft). Together with the Old Town and its natural surroundings, the fortifications are listed as a World Heritage Site. The Illyrians, Byzantines, Venetians, and Austrians built the fortress between the ninth and 19th centuries. Take the main entrance near the River Gate and ask for a descriptive brochure identifying various towers, citadels, gates, bastions, forts, cisterns, and churches along the way. Rest on a stone seat in front of the Church of Our Lady of Remedy. Walk carefully, as the stairs are unstable in places, and be sure to take a bottle of water with you.   • The Place is fantastic, obviously it's a tourist area living mostly for the summer time but I would love to have someone cleaning the path at least a couple of times during the day! Also to start your hike it costs 8 euros per person, I'd expect someone that removes the trash. The view on top is wonderful and fulfilling! Loved it.
  • Stunning views, but if you intend to make the long hike up to the castle, my advice is to start early. I arrived before eight in the morning and the turnstiles were unmanned, meaning it was free. The path also gets very crowded later, and lots of it is in poor condition, other than some narrow steps which run along the side. An excellent place to visit, if you get there early enough.
