Dating to the 7th century BC when it originally developed as a marketplace, Roman Forum today presents a remarkably well-preserved picture of what became the social, political, and commercial heart of the Roman Empire. Set off along one of the paths to encounter remnants of temples, basilicas, and government buildings. Crane your neck to take in the eight soaring columns of the Temple of Saturn, marvel at the magnificent white marble Arch of Septimius Severus--a victory arch standing 23 m (75.5 ft) high, 25 m (82 ft) wide, and 11.85 m (38.9) deep--and amble past the Curia Julia to witness where the Roman Senate conducted affairs of the state. To see as much of the expansive collection of ancient artifacts and to put them in rich context, consider hiring a guide or joining a tour of the site. Roman Forum reviews
Usually 40'000 visitors a day at this wonderful place but when we were there (during COVID-19) it was empty and super cool, good view and everything is in good condition (not broken stuff) more »
You have to go to the Roman Forum when you visit Rome! There are some really well preserved remains e.g. two triumphal arches. As well as various temples and basilicas in varying states of... more »
Definitely worth a visit! Almost didn't go as my feet were so tired after touring the Colosseum but so glad I did. I can see how a guided tour would be nice as I didn't really know what I was looking at but it was still incredible wandering around looking at the ruins. The view from Palatine hill is also spectacular. The second entrance a short walk down the road from the Colosseum (rather than the one opposite it) had no queue to enter as well if you are rushed for time/don't want to wait in a queue.
If you need to read a review about the Roman Forum to see if it’s worth going then you should go. You will not be disappointed, unless you don’t like historical places. I only wish I could’ve seen it at its zenith with all the marble columns and gardens. Do yourself a favor and buy a ticket for the Forum, Palatine Hill, and Colosseum. You can split them up over two days if you like. They are all worth a visit.
