Piazza dei Miracoli, Pisa

#2 of 201 in Things to do in Pisa
Landmark · Tourist Spot
Visit Tuscany's focal point of medieval architecture and fine art at Piazza dei Miracoli. Four historical buildings anchor this designated sacred area: the Pisa Cathedral, the Pisa Baptistery, the monumental cemetery, and the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Wander the manicured green lawns of the plaza, taking in the view of the towering, white stone buildings and their ornate facades. Admire the beautiful marble arches and coffered ceiling of the cathedral with five naves. For more information on the site's history and cultural legacy, visit the plaza's Sinopias Museum or the Cathedral Museum. • One of the most famous squares in the world, famous mostly for the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The buildings here were built in the Middle Ages. There were large crowds during my visit.  more »
  • Pisa is easily accessible and visited by either train, bus or car. It is a must see in northern Tuscany. Take you time walking through the square. There are a few sites to see outside of the tower.  more »
  • First trip to Pisa. How lovely. Some amazing photo attempts of holding up the tower! Nice meander and very good pizza....tuna, pineapple, sweet corn and red onion! Nice glass of rose. Very friendly staff who spoke excellent English.
  • If you are in Florence or somewhere in the area it is worth taking an hour local train ride to visit this place. The plaza contains the Cathedral Archdiocese of Pisa which of course the world renown leaning tower of Pisa is a part of. The place is full of tourists but you can still enjoy yourself by visiting the Duomo and/or the tower. Be sure to check the schedule and get on the list as the line to climb the tower may be very long.
