In the historic heart of Genoa, Via Giuseppe Garibaldi is one of the more ornate and grandiose streets in all of Italy, complete with stonework and vivid colors. Sixteenth- through 18th-century palaces with hidden courtyards and gardens line the 250 m (820 ft) long road. While some of these palazzos are private property, you can visit the ones with museums, galleries, and civil organizations. Antique shops and gift stores also dot the street.
