Visit the sobering memorial for the infamous plane crash off the island of Ustica at Museo per la Memoria di Ustica. The reassembled body of the plane combines with loudspeakers playing the "thoughts" of passengers to create an eerie tribute to the victims of the crash.     You have to book a time slot in advance but there is no admittance fee. The way this memorial has been done is so respectful and atmospheric that you can not help but be moved by it.  more »

    Sounds haunting with the voices. Reminder how precious life is. Free entry and toilet facilities. Disabled access.

    Very evocative museum about a plane crash that was never explained. This museum was taken down by a missile on its way to Sicily, and it seems to have come from Italy itself. The government has never clarified what happened. The association of the victims' families opened this museum, called Museum of Memory, to remember their struggle from truth and remembrance. French artist Christian Boltanski created this exhibit, with 81 lightbulbs that go on and off and 81 mirrors to remember the victims. The sound system repeats done phrases, daily concern, to represent the victims.
