The relatively simple interior decor of sets off the famous fresco--Legends of the True Cross--that adorns its walls. Some of the small frescoes in the niches date back to the 14th century. Before you get to these, you'll pass under a crucifix suspended with a Madonna in Majesty. The basilica's main cathedral features a single, large nave with chapels on either side. Beneath this cathedral, a chiesa inferiore (lower church) displays temporary exhibits paying homage to the city and the church's history. Amazing town we visited Arezzo go the medieval festival held twice a year. If you ever watched Under the Tuscan Sun this is the festival We ate lunch in a side street cafe San Francesco and were greeted as family by the the owner. We had a meat and cheese plate and chefs surprise. If in town well worth searching for.

This is the place to see the magnificent frescoes of Piero Della Francesca. The church itself was very nice, unpretentious and not overly decorated.
