Glencar Lake, Sligo

#3 of 12 in Nature in Sligo
Water Body · Hidden Gem · Nature / Park
The 8 km (5 mi) of Glencar Lake let you experience ample trails around the Irish countryside. Follow the short trail near the lake to the northeast corner, where you'll find a 15 m (49.2 ft) waterfall featured in some of William Butler Yeats' poetry. Fish for trout and salmon in the lake, and stop for a picnic at one of the many scenic spots. Wear suitable footwear if you're hiking up to the best viewpoints, as the wet conditions can make it quite slippery. Paths to the waterfall are wheelchair accessible. • it can be a nightmare to park the car. Besides visiting the waterfall, a lot of people visit the lake for a family/picnic day, so it will be busy, most of the times.  more »
  • Do not let this spot pass you by. It is gorgeous. Views are stunning. Stopped for a lovely cup of coffee in the nearby Waterfall Cafe.  more »
