A persuasive testament to the wealth and glory of Qajarian kings, Golestan Palace, also known as "Roseland Palace" features carefully landscaped gardens surrounded by impressive historic buildings. Inspired by the grandness of European palaces, Nasser al-Din Shah started to build this complex on the site of an earlier Safavid-era citadel from the mid-19th century. The complex--which is a listed World Heritage Site--boasts 17 edifices, including residential palaces, halls used for coronations and royal weddings, and museums. See the collections of royal portraits, decorative arts, ethnic costumes, and presents from European royalty. Compare the photographs of court life to pictures of everyday life in 19th century Iran. The highlights include a royal throne of yellow alabaster supported by human and demon figures and the famous hall of mirrors. It took us two half days to see whole the Palace. Not that it is only a beautiful Palace with a lot of unique tile works and mirror works in its architecture, but also it is full of master pieces of..... more »

This is a beautiful palace and lots of details in it. Its being maintained very well. It’s a must to learn the history behind it and use the information that they provide to you once you buy your entrance ticket. The inside and outside of this palace are both amazing. If you are in Tehran, visit here with Grand Bazaar and perhaps the National jewels museum (check the hours as it’s limited) on the same day. More beautiful from the outside than from the inside. Not worth the cost they're charging you. You can see more beautiful traditional houses in Isfahan or Mirror Mosque in Shiraz if you are interested in Persian design & architecture. Not worth visiting all the halls and paying extra for each one. I'd visit the yard next time only This place is steeped in history. As you walk around the palace grounds, you can't but help feel the presence of people gone. The gardens are wonderful and the tile work is incredible. You should take a camera otherwise you'll end up regretting it. Go early because there's loads to see. The curators are not very interested in providing information so read up or better yet go with a guide. A historical place with absolutely unique architecture. Every Iranian must see this palace which is belongs to their originality. I recommend it to whoever interested in history, art and Iranian culture. Also headphones are provided to guide about all items in Persian and English. They charge 10,000 TOMAN for them.
