#1 of 8,304 in Things to do in Greece
Established to preserve the rich heritage of ancient Greece, Acropolis Museum brings together thousands of artifacts found at the world-famous ancient citadel located on a rocky outcrop above Athens. Opened in 2009 just a short walk from this heritage-listed archaeological site, the museum exhibits nearly 4,000 objects, including items formerly held in storage or displayed by foreign museums. The collection focuses on statues from the 5th century BCE, widely regarded as the finest examples of ancient artistic achievement. The museum building, a major tourist attraction in itself, features exhibit spaces designed to give each artifact a clear historical context. Finish your visit at the second-floor restaurant, which offers panoramic views of the city's historical hills. • Built in a modern architectural style on the ruins of the ancient city at the foot of the Acropolis in Athens, it is a must-see, very important museum.

  • The museum is really interesting, the modern structure goes very well with the beautiful pieces on display. The stained-glass window overlooking the acropolis and the archaeological site below the building add charm to the visit. At the entrance the bags are checked and being quite frequented, it creates tail.

  • The Acropolis Museum was a wonderful exhibition of what the Acropolis looked like before the Persian wars and very informative! I really enjoyed learning about how they made the different ancient pigments for the reliefs and statues. The construction methods they used to create the Acropolis and such beautiful statues and artworks was also very enlightening. I will definitely be visiting again!
  • The Acropolis museum is at the heart of Athens and is easy to access. Entry is 10 euros per person. The inside of the museum is clean, modern and smart. Most of the contents of the museum are old sculpted bits of marble from ancient Greek buildings. There's a cafe/shop on the 2nd floor and a short movie/cinema about the Parthenon showing on the top. A pleasant visit overall with a modest entry fee. If you like looking at the remains of ancient Greek architecture, then this place is for you - but don't expect to find much else here.
