Cathedral of St Peter's, Regensburg

4.7
Cathedral of St Peter's is a considered the most significant Gothic work in southern Germany. The infamous Judensau (Jews' sow) sits outside the church. This statue features three Jews suckling at a large female pig. It faces the former Jewish quarter. Some of the vibrant, stained-glass windows inside the church date to the 13th and 14th centuries. The Mary with Angels statue from 1280 features a colorfully painted Virgin Mary greeting the angel Gabriel. Note that photography is not allowed inside the church. • It is a large spire building that you can see when you head from the station to the old town. The inside was free to visit, and when I entered, I was practicing the organ, playing a medley-like combination of Bach and Liszt songs. The majestic sound is wonderful.

  • A marvel of medieval stonemasonry, rightly a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Regensburg Cathedral towers high above the Danube. Once in a lifetime you have to see that. I've been coming back for 45 years!

  • Beautiful church. We visited during the organ concert at noon. It was beautiful! The stained glass is incredible.
  • Wonderful, solid, strong building with amazing windows, especially at the east end and the world's biggest and heaviest hanging organ .. it's an astonishing instrument. Absolutely beautiful. Come into building, sit a while and let you eyes adjust to the light before seeing what splendid details this place reveals.
