The world's largest model railway layout, Miniatur Wunderland consists of 12,000 m (39,000 ft) of tracks built in HO scale (1:87). This awe-inspiring exhibit is divided into seven sections with over nearly 900 trains, 11,000 carriages, 300,000 lights, 215,000 trees, and 200,000 human figurines. The layout includes huge panoramas of the Alps, the American West, Switzerland, Hamburg, and the fictitious city of Knuffingen. The latter features its own airport, with planes capable of taxiing and even flying. Originally started in 2000 by brothers Gerrit and Frederik Braun, this project is continuously expanding. It's expected to reach its final construction phase in 2020. Save time by booking your tickets online. Call the site in advance to arrange a behind-the-scenes tour. Ok, When I went here back in August of 2019, we got a tour on a boat and it was great. When we got off the boat we went to the building which looked smaller than I expected. When we got inside it was.... more »

It is a nice place. The place is surprisingly large, and therefore easy to get lost in all the many details. There are more details and even with the scenery changing from day to night there are... more »

Absolutely BRILLIANT!! You may have seen the videos and photographs and read the books and articles... But there is absolutely no substitute for seeing the real thing! I was amazed at the sheer size of the exhibits, planned to stay for two maybe three hours, but stayed all day!! Thank you to those who had the foresight to turn an idea into reality, and those who operate and maintain and develop it daily. JUST GO!!!

The place is the most visited tourist destination for anyone coming to Hamburg. It has a large number of miniatures of great cities, monuments, scenery, and locations, which are totally fascinating and full of artistic grandeur and excellence. I must say that the place is one of its kind and offers a great experience. It is very informative for all age groups and brings a lot of innovation and curiosity in visitors, especially children. The description of all miniatures is also clear and informative. The price is highly reasonable and appropriate considering plenty of time that is needed to absorb all details. You need at least half a day to cover it well and click the pictures. The building comprises of many floors and is always crowded. The place can be reached easily by metro, taxi or car, but the public transport is always better as it is located in the center of the city. An amazing experience. Would definitely recommend it for all tourists.
