Elbphilharmonie Hamburg Reviews
It's free to go up to the roof terraces of the building and see the view of the city. It's worth the trip, but the view is not particularly picturesque (mainly looking over the industrial harbour... more »

State of the Art concert hall with absolutely fantastic acoustics. I saw a concert in the smaller hall. The sound was perfect and the seats were comfortable. You can also visit for tge view for a fee. That, in itself, is worth it. The view up the Elbe and across the city is stunning. There is a cafe and bar where you can sit inside and relax. The outside view can be quite windy.
I finally got concert tickets and was disappointed by the hall. The interior is not that great, possibly because every surface has to be covered with acoustic paneling. It continued the theme of having light fixtures/bulbs literally every foot or so, like on the moving walkway, which means it's busy rather than attractive or elegant. In fact, despite the price tag it looks cheap. HOWEVER the acoustics are spectacularly, unbelievably good. I was in the last row (and had to have a friend go to the box office six months in advance to get those) and felt like I was in the next room. (In fact, I was closer than many people on lower levels, being pretty much above the orchestra: a great bargain at 28 euros.) The sound was crystal clear and the audience absolutely silent. For music lovers, I can't recommend it highly enough. Plaza entry is disappointing for people without concert tickets. The moving walkway entrance is fun and the view is good (you're actually just 8 floors up) but it's pretty much a smallish mall with a restaurant, a bar, and a cappuccino shop. The Westin hotel is quite good with nice, reasonably-priced rooms.
