Praetorium, Cologne

4.2
See the remains of a city long past at Cologne's Praetorium, located below the Altes Rathaus and belonging to the Jewish Museum. Once the official residence of the Imperial Governor of Cologne, these well-preserved ruins from the Roman period represent the political-administrative cradle of the region for that time. The walls of the fourth-century palace remain accessible and visible in the Archeological Zone. Finds include pottery, wall paintings, marble decorations, mosaics, and sculptures. Also, look for old Roman sewer, which you can access from the anteroom of the Praetorium. • This museum is closed until 2021 due to construction in the area. This info should be highlighted on their website!
  • Yep, another Roman ruins museum that just amazes me! All you need is about an hour here. Absolutely loved the reproductions of what the ruins originally looked like.
