Great Blankenburg Castle (German: Schloss Blankenburg) was built on the limestone hill of Blankenstein (305 m above sea level (NN)) in the town of Blankenburg in the district of Harz in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt.   • The castle Blankenburg is an old residency from parts of the Welfen family with a lot of different uses over time. After being nearly destroyed and forgotten, it is now carefully being renovated and.....  more »
  • The Blankenstein hill has a castle converted into a Baroque schloss that fell into decline and is now under restoration. There’s a baroque garden, park, pond and extensive forested grounds that are good for hiking. The area could be wonderful with some appropriate investment.
  • In the winter they shut down for renovation so pay attention to the schedule. The walk up the hill is nice if you have the stamina. Views of the city gorgeous. Highly recommended.
