A World Heritage Site, Svetitskhoveli Cathedral dates back to the 4th century and is the legendary burial site of Jesus Christ's mantle. Visit the site to learn the story that goes with the claim of the burial place of garment, which involves its purchase after Christ's crucifixion. The church, founded by St. Nino, was the coronation and burial site for many of the kings of Georgia. You can also view a 4th-century stone baptismal font, believed to have been used to baptize King Miriam and Queen Nana, and the remnants of the life-giving pillar of legend. It’s a great place to visit with an old town vibes. The place is peaceful as well as the locals. There are local stores where you can buy souvenirs from carpets to snow globes and you can even haggle from local vendors. :)
Amazing history of the church. You need to have a guide who gives you the proper history about it(Luka was my guide from Budget Friendly tour). Beautiful, peaceful and interesting church. I was really mesmerized when I entered. I would love to come back again.
