The highest and best-preserved Roman aqueduct bridge in the world, the nearly 2,000-year-old Pont du Gard is a monument to Roman engineering and a World Heritage site. In its heyday, the aqueduct carried an estimated 200,000 cubic m (nearly 53 million gal) of water each day to the local baths, homes, and fountains. Due to the varied terrain, the aqueduct was created with different construction methods, ranging from underground construction to this bridge with three grand tiers of arches. • We first saw this some thirty years ago and were duly impressed but the new visitors centre and museum have added massively to this attraction. Whether or not you have any knowledge of the Romans...

  • Amazing historical place. The aqueduct bridge is truly an engineering marvel of its time (1st century) and very well preserved till date. There are numerous tunnels surrounding the area as well which can be explored. Various activities are conducted here during the summer which make the place look almost magical.
  • We had a good walking before arrive at place. When we arrived there and said wow, it's amazing! How is the people in thousand years ago build this thing and along with a nice river.
