Chateau de Bizy, Vernon

#1 of 13 in Things to do in Vernon
Castle · Tourist Spot
At the gates of the city of Vernon, Chateau de Bizy offers you the pleasure of discovering the charm of this grand park. Stroll the grounds and admire the numerous sculpted fountains, including Neptune fountain, the water staircase, the fountain Gribouille, the sea horse fountain, and more. There are also stables that were built in 1741. All of this grandeur has earned the site the nickname of "Versailles of Normandy."

As you visit, keep in mind that the property has belonged to Louis XV, the Duke of Penthièvre, the last King of the French, and others. Refined interiors have memories of the First Empire, united by the descendants of the brothers Bonaparte and Marshal Suchet Dukes of Albufera. This parentage is still resident and owner of the castle. • The visit was very personal - we ended up being the only two people on the last tour (at 5 PM). The chateau is still owned and lived in, and the tour includes nice touches like being able to play a beautiful grand piano. Overall more interesting than we expected and worth a visit!
  • This chateau is worth a visit, a guided tour costs 9 euro. The guidance was in French, but there are written guides in English available. Though the level of spoken French was mediocre, most of the people should understand what the guide is talking about. Our guide was very friendly, gave us the time to look around and take a photo here and there. A very interesting tour! Beautiful gardens, unfortunately the fountains aren't maintained, which means that some didn't work anymore.
