Basilique de Saint-Quentin, Saint-Quentin City

Church · Hidden Gem · Tourist Spot
Basilique de Saint-Quentin began construction in the 12th century but was later damaged in the mid 1500s by fire. After the Revolution of 1789, the church was used as a storehouse for animal feed and as a stable. In 1871, mortar shells from the invading Prussians pounded the basilica. It took another beating during World War I when German forces drilled it with holes for explosives, but the French prevented it from being blown to pieces. The basilica has now been restored and is open for you to safely explore. • Very lively area as the garden was given over to entertainment for the children. They all seemed to enjoy the sand, the water and the rides available. Good to see the children having fun.
  • Totally amazing, so many different carvings, stone carving at it's very best. Then there are treats if you open your eyes. I was blown away.vunforyunsteky I didn't have long enough, without a doubt a hidden gem, I am not sure if the front facade was done the same when it was remastered, as I haven't researched. If you like architecture then you should see it
