Take in historic architecture and art at St. Mark's Church (Crkva sv. Marka). Notice the roof tiles, which depict a white castle on a red background--the coats of arms of the city of Zagreb. Watch for the Romanesque window and Gothic doorway that remain from the original structure. At the southern portal, admire the Gothic sculptures, which represent the twelve apostles, Joseph and Mary with baby Jesus, and St. Mark with the lion. On the northwest wall of the church, you can see the oldest coat of arms of Zagreb from 1499. In the church interior, keep an eye out for two statues by Ivan Mestrovic, considered by many to be the most famous Croatian sculptor of the 20th century. This is one of the most beautiful buildings I have ever seen in my life. We were visiting the building on the National day for the military so there were a lot of people and a show. If you have time you should also come back to visit this building in the dark when it is beautiful lit up! Definitely worth to visit!
Really nice tourist attraction, the roof of the church is really well made and looks beautiful. There is also a little area nearby which has plenty of stalls for food and drinks and entertainment at night as well as a view over the city which is beautiful. Would recommend coming and seeing if in the area or even exploring nearby. When we were there, there was also people dressed up like they would be in the times the church was built which really adds to the atmosphere.
