Museo de Antioquia, Medellin

History Museum · Museum
Trace the evolution of art in Colombia from pre-colonial times to the present day at Museo de Antioquia. Placing a strong emphasis on local works, the museum houses a range of pieces by Medellin duo Pedro Nel Gomez and Fernando Botero, with more than 200 of the latter's distinctive works on displays. Don't miss Botero's almost comically misshapen sculptures and paintings, in which the artist purposely exaggerated the curves of the body to create grotesque "fat" figures. Compare Botero's works to other Colombian artists on display and ponder what statements he might be making.
